Which electric trike (or e-bike) is right for you?

Choose an electric trike by three things: what you'll use it for most, the rider's height, and how much they weigh. Our five folding e-trikes all have hydraulic disc brakes on all three wheels and a rear differential. They differ in how easy they are to get on and off, the seat, the tyres and the room for shopping. Answer a few quick questions below, or read on to compare them side by side. Then try your pick at one of our showrooms in Melbourne or Sydney.

Find your ride

A few quick questions, about two minutes. Choosing for someone else? Answer for them.

Two wheels or three?

Choose by the way you ride

The quick way to choose

  1. Two wheels or three?

  2. Then check the rider's height and weight, and book a test ride.

This is a guide. Height, weight and how a trike feels to you matter too, so try one first or give us a call.

Be sure before you buy

  • Book a test ride at Vermont (Melbourne), Girraween or Marrickville (Sydney). Most visits take 30 minutes to an hour, and we'll help set the seat.
  • Bring someone along. A partner, family member or support worker is welcome to ask questions and try one too.
  • Call us first. Not sure which model? Call +61 468 095 888 and we'll help you narrow it down.
  • Not near a showroom? Some retail stores, service partners and Ridewave owners can help locally. See our locations.

Questions people ask

How do I choose the right size electric trike?

Start with the rider's height. Our trikes fit riders from 150 cm (Koala and Platypus) up to 195 cm (Wallaby Plus). Then check the step-through height if getting on and off matters, and the max total load if you'll carry a lot. A test ride is the best way to be sure, and we'll help set the seat.

Which electric trike is easiest to get on and off?

The Koala, with a 29.5 cm step-through, the lowest in our range. The Quokka (35 cm) and Platypus (35.5 cm) are next.

Which trike carries the most?

The Koala, Wallaby and Wallaby Plus take up to 150 kg, rider plus cargo. Every model has a rear basket rated up to 45 kg within its total load, and the Quokka also comes with a front basket (up to 10 kg). A front basket is available for the other models.

Do they fold to fit in a car?

Yes, every Ridewave e-trike folds. Folded sizes run from 101 Ă— 77 Ă— 69 cm (Koala) to 123 Ă— 77 Ă— 78 cm (Platypus). Measure your boot opening before you buy.

Do I need to balance on a trike?

No. With three wheels there's no balancing at a stop, so a trike feels steadier than a standard bicycle at the lights. Trikes steer and corner differently from a bicycle, which is why we suggest a test ride to get used to it.

How fast do they go, and where can I ride?

250W motor with pedal assist that stops at 25 km/h, and a start-up throttle that assists up to 6 km/h only. The 250W version is manufactured and configured to EN 15194 requirements. E-bike and e-trike road rules differ by state and are changing: please check your state's rules before riding on roads or paths. Read e-bike and electric trike laws in Australia.
