Our story

More rides, more stories.

An Australian e-bike and e-trike brand, made for sunshine, open paths and the freedom to just go.

Ridewave electric trikes, among them a cream Platypus, a red Quokka and a blue Wallaby Plus, parked together at a park rest stop under gum trees

It started with a wheelie.

No fancy origin story here. I just really loved riding.

From Year 7 I rode to school every day. I could pull a wheelie, and I once won a bet with my classmates by riding the whole 2 to 3 km to school without touching the handlebars. (Please don't try that one.)

Then life happened. Work, then a family, then everything else. The bike stayed in the garage, and somewhere along the way riding stopped being something I did. I didn't notice how much I missed it until it was gone.

Then it clicked.

Around the time of COVID, I rode an e-bike for the first time.

A few hundred metres in, I was grinning like that kid on the way to school. The hills that used to wear me out were easy. A quick trip turned into a whole morning out. I could see straight away how much this could do, and not just for me.

Then we found three wheels.

Around the same time, I watched riding slip away from people I care about. A friend who had ridden every weekend for years hurt his knee and put his bike away. Older family members found pedalling harder each year, until they no longer felt steady on two wheels at all. Nobody made a fuss. They just went out a little less, and then a little less again.

That stayed with me. So we went looking, and found electric trikes: three wheels that stand steady at the lights, a motor that does the heavy lifting, and the open road back within reach. Watching people we love ride off down the street again, smiling, is when Ridewave really began.

Made to go further.

From day one, we put most of our effort into the trikes themselves: how they're designed, how they're built and what goes into them. Every Ridewave e-trike has hydraulic disc brakes on all three wheels, three discs for three wheels, and a rear differential so it rounds corners smoothly. We don't cut corners, because we've always believed a safe ride is a more fun ride.

Most of our e-bikes and e-trikes fold, too, so they fit in the car boot, the caravan or the corner of the garage, and come along wherever the day goes: the bay trail, the caravan park, the country town worth a slow lap.

The deeper we went into this, the clearer it became. New technology can give people back the freedom to get out and go, on their own terms. Every rider who comes back to tell us where they went reminds us why we started, and honestly, it's the most rewarding work we've ever done.
